People are fast moving, especially downtown and do not take time to appreciate these old signs in Kansas City. Each sign hangs off the building into the street, where as our modern signs stick directly onto the storefront. By shooting these photos with a view camera, I had to slow down my process while capturing each shot and creating my compositions. Using this old technology to photograph vintage objects in our contemporary age creates a disconnect that is worth exploring. The outside world was bustling around me, but I was able to capture these in time and draw attention to them while others are taking them for granted. These signs may begin to deteriorate over the years, or be completely torn down. My photos now act as a way to capture their history.
